CARDIOLOGY CARE AMID THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
As Ontario slowly reopens amid the COVID-19 pandemic, PACE Cardiology is now able to offer more cardiac services. While most patients are still being assessed via virtual care, our Newmarket and Barrie clinics have reopened for both urgent and routine cardiology assessments and full cardiac testing services. Our Orillia ECHO clinic (located at Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital) has also reopened for both inpatient and outpatient echocardiograms. For patients who have symptoms suggestive of heart disease, we strongly encourage you to seek help as you did in the past, as the risk of ignoring high risk symptoms such as chest pain, a significant change in shortness of breath, or dizziness and syncope is probably higher than the risk of COVID-19.
With respect to telemedicine, PACE will continue to offer virtual care. For videoconferencing, patients can use a smart phone, tablet or a computer (equipped with a microphone and camera). But, a regular telephone call also works just fine, too. All appointments are covered by OHIP.
To ensure patient and staff safety, we are maintaining rigorous cleaning, hygiene and PPE standards at all of our clinics. Keeping physical distancing in mind, we have set limits on patient capacity, installed protective barriers and added physical distancing signage. Please note, all visitors to our clinics must wear a face mask. You can find some easy instructions on making your own face mask by clicking here.
We are able to offer ambulatory monitoring services at our clinics and remotely (remote devices are limited to 72 hour and 14 day holters). The monitoring devices will be shipped to the patient and back to us for analysis, if ordered. Patients will not have to come back to our clinics to have the monitor applied, or to return the monitor. Patients can also perform ECGs at home using a HeartCheck CardiBeat Handheld ECG device, which is available for purchase at our clinics or online (see our virtual care section).
The PACE Tottenham ECHO and holter clinic has closed permanently.
Virtual care is available for all PACE Cardiology patients. New patients will require a referral from a physician or nurse practitioner. For more information on our virtual care program, or to make an appointment, call 1-888-662-0680, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
